The Glistening of Sun and Perspiration

Joe has been valiantly working to expand the back patio, out from the shadows, into the sun. He is hoping to allow for gatherings with friends, to soak up rays and just make it more usable. He has about killed himself to get it finished. I have tried to encourage him to pace himself but to no avail. It has been tricky with all of the help he has been given to stay on task. Last night he urgently said, “Come outside!” He was so excited. He declared that he was finished!” We sat dow in the chairs in the attempt to revel in the glory until...both of us...immediately began suggesting changes and improvements.

Later I asked myself. We were we not content with what we had. It was beautiful. It met the original goals of more space and sun. So what was our problem. We both even said, I can’t wait until the grass grows. Like we had a right to be discontent with the pace of grass growing.

Passively accepting what life gives is not how we are created. When God pulled us from the earth, or Adam’s rib, (depending on our gender) He breathed into our nostrils His breath. A divine breath that moves through us and impacts our spirit  our spirits are holy and seek beauty and life and transcendence.

We live in a place where so many things are covered up with the world so finding divinity in that which is man made,  is difficult. But we are created to seek. In our searching, if we rob ourselves of Godly views, nature, God-given, talent created beauty, we find that what we see isn’t fulfilling. So we seek some more.

As I study, I am drawn to the beautiful letter to the Romans, Paul spoke to the believers in Rome about what hope and wait for, patiently. It issue beautiful I am putting it here:

“And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us. We were given this hope when we were saved. (If we already have something, we don’t need to hope for it. But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.) And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”

Romans 8:23-28 NLT

This morning, as I sit on the new portion of the patio, the dew dancing on the grass, glistening in the morning sun, my skin baking, ever so slightly, I am content. Thank you God.
